Men thought that they were better than women, physically and mentally. Which i COMPLETELY disagree with!Sometimes men would marry a woman, spend all her money, then get a marriage annulment. A marriage annulment is like a divorce. Also, society thought it was fine for a man to beat women. Which is sooooo NOT OK! The records show that a man broke his wife's nose by kicking her in the face. Then he went and BRAGGED ABOUT IT!
Oh and that's not all, sometimes peasant women were punished by dunking. This is where she would be tied to a chair dipped into a pond. So they were pretty much DROWNING HER! But some women were actually treated with respect. Some husbands were kind and thoughtful. Usually a woman's social status depended on her access to land. This was the same for men.
Wow, you have really good voice in your post! I agree with you that a husband hitting his wife or using her for money is wrong.

ReplyDeleteWow!I can not believe how women were treated in the middle ages. It was shocking to read how brutally women were treated, beaten, and humiliated. It was also shocking that nody even cared or tryed to stop people from hurting them.
