Girls Becomming Adults
At the age of 12 girls were considered adults. Boys were adults at 14. This is a little young if you ask me. But I guess it was not too young for them because their life expectancy was 30 to 40 years. Unless they passed the age where the diese was the most common, then they could live to be about 60 years old.
The church thought that when they became adults it was apropiate for them to make their first confession. Although they were adults they were not complete members of society at this age they got legal responcibility. But when girls became older they were not allowed to become a priest.
Wow! Adults at 12 is crazy to me! Did the "adults" have as much responsibility as we have now?
ReplyDeleteIf it was the same for us I would be an adult right now because im 14 thats crazy. But I think it is logical since they only live til lke 30 and 40
ReplyDeleteThats really interesting... and a little weird that women were to be married at the age of 12. ITs interesting because i didnt know that and its weird because if i lived in medieval times ,i would be married right now.
