Can Women Own Land?

Yes a woman can own land. She could marry a landowner and they would share the land. If her husband died then she would get all of the land. Which would be ALOT of work to take care of herself. Then as she got older the physical laybor would become more dificult. Also, if she had no brothers she could inherit the land. Its not fair how brothers get everything.

Girls Becomming Adults

           At the age of 12 girls were considered adults. Boys were adults at 14. This is a little young if you ask me. But I guess it was not too young for them because their life expectancy was 30 to 40 years. Unless they passed the age where the diese was the most common, then they could live to be about 60 years old.
          The church thought that when they became adults it was apropiate for them to make their first confession. Although they were adults they were not complete members of society at this age they got legal responcibility. But when girls became older they were not allowed to become a priest.

How Other People Treated Women

         Men thought that they were better than women, physically and mentally. Which i COMPLETELY disagree with!Sometimes men would marry a woman, spend all her money, then get a marriage annulment. A marriage annulment is like a divorce. Also, society thought it was fine for a man to beat women. Which is sooooo NOT OK! The records show that a man broke his wife's nose by kicking her in the face. Then he went and BRAGGED ABOUT IT!

         Oh and that's not all, sometimes peasant women were punished by dunking. This is where she would be tied to a chair dipped into a pond. So they were pretty much DROWNING HER! But some women were actually  treated with respect. Some husbands were kind and thoughtful. Usually a woman's social status depended on her access to land. This was the same for men.

A Womans' Life

 Women were supposed to be soft spoken. That doesn’t happen now of coarse. Women were never to run it would be atrocious if they did. In stead they were supposed to walk like a lady. Also it was pertinent that a woman did not embarrass her husband.  Also women were not to be rude, or be disrespectful. 

  Most people thought that the most important thing for a woman to do was have children. Like i said earlier they had ALOT. Usually the poor women got to choose their husbands, but the wealthy had to have a arranged marriage. In their free time they embroidered, played chess, and read stories.
